THE NOKMEE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF EWHA WOMANS UNIVERSITY’S COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN IS HOLDING ITS 25TH EXHIBITION ‘ROOTS’

EE.UU./ NEW YORK/27/03/2023.-The President of the Nokmee Art Society said for this exhibition “I am very excited to be celebrating the 25th anniversary of Nokmee this year! With the great work of our alumni, we are producing an exhibition to honor our anniversary. It is especially noteworthy for us to be celebrating as we are emerging from three difficult years of dealing with the pandemic. As an overseas branch based in New York, we provide a platform for our members to demonstrate their talents and capabilities and also allow them to maintain a connection to Ewha. The theme of this exhibition is the Gracious Gratitude for Our Lives, which has grown and borne fruit, rooted in our homeland and alma mater. In the sense of promising a new leap forward, we decided on the name: Roots. Keeping pace with the development and vision of the alma mater, we overseas are also actively engaged in creative activities and with interest and love, we will repay your support.”

Artists featured in this exhibition are:

Ok-Sun Maeng; Hyo-Chong Yoo; Yuran Lee; Won Hee Min (Nokmee President); Claire Won Kang; Young Hee Kim; Sun Young Won; In-soon Shin; Han Namin Jeannie Choe; Minja Kim; Myung Sook Ryu Kim; Miran Kim; Jenny Kim; Sunghae Kim; Hyun Joo Cho; Hyun Ju Min; Misoo Kim; Hongmi Kim Hoog; Helen Draves; Haera Han; Min Kim; Jeong Julia Lee; Yuna Yang

Lee Won-young (Claire W. Kang) AIFD, 1968, member of Nokmee, said about the 25th anniversary exhibition of Nokmee ” Nokmee Art Society, started in 1998, was first suggested by Sook Nyu Lee Kim who was the president of the Ewha Womans University New York Alumni Association at the time. It was regretful that many alumni who immigrated to the United States could not continue their creative activities owing to the hardship on their families and livelihoods. They started Nokmee art exhibition by the Ewha art college alumni.  For the past 25 years, the Nokmee Art Society has been a major source of vitality for all participating alumni through promoting friendship among alumni, encouraging individual arts and creative work and volunteering for the Korean community.  Recently, I contacted all of my senior and junior alumni who worked hard for Nokmee activities with the help of the current presidential team, and was able to briefly summarize the history of Nokmee Art Society in “Nokmee New York Former Presidents and Exhibitions”. She also said ” It is more heartbreaking because alumni Kim Ok-Ji who served as the first president and several others have already passed away. This activity has been possible for a quarter century thanks to the strenuous work of the former presidents, many dedicated alumni who actively participated in Nokmee activities, and the hidden support of many spouses. Now, as we celebrate the 25th anniversary, I hope that the Nokmee Art Society will have diverse opportunities in the future to grow seamlessly through more reflections and cooperation with alumni.”
