QIHENG LIU «DEFYING GRAVITY»

26/04/2019/ New Yorck.- Qiheng Liu makes his first US debut at One Art Space with his solo exhibition «Defying Gravity». One Art Space invites you to the opening reception of «Defying Gravity» Thursday, May 2nd.

This collection, like Qiheng Liu himself, projects a quiet, thoughtful intensity. Qiheng’s work respectfully defies traditional still life and portrait painting, even daring to «mess with» gravity. Qiheng carefully redesigns what, at first glance, may appear like a standard academic composition with magical breaths of life which seemingly liberates objects from the surface of the canvas. The results are spellbinding.

Qiheng Liu’s inspiration stems from an awakening; that failures leads to success. This journey, to discover one’s true self as an artist, has swept Qiheng Liu from Inner Mongolia, China to Glasgow, Scotland, to London, England to Portland, Oregon, and finally Tribeca, New York, USA. The objective of Qiheng Liu’s work is to try to understand the different elements of painting while exploring the relationship between them; to achieve self actualization through expression.
