Organized by the Liszt Institute New York and the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design a special exhibition titled RUBIK50 – Fifty Years of Magic will take place at One Art Space between November 18-20 celebrating the 50th anniversary of the invention of the Rubik’s Cube as well as its inventor’s, Ern\u0151 Rubik’s 80th birthday.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

NEW YORK \/16\/11\/2024.-The aim of this pop-up exhibition, consisting of three major sections, is to showcase the broad spectrum of Ern\u0151 Rubik\u2019s work. It offers insights into pivotal moments in the designer’s life while outlining the history of the Cube and its intriguing cultural impacts. Engaging with the power of play in an interactive format, it illustrates the innovative inventions emerging today in the 21st century, right where the Rubik\u2019s Cube first achieved its remarkable success. In a predominantly digital world, this exhibition pays tribute to the Rubik\u2019s Cube, a game that embodies timeless value. Unlike the rapid obsolescence seen in many computer games, the Rubik\u2019s Cube speaks to eternity, illustrating how true complexity often resides in the simplest of objects, much like many ancient games.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The installation units, constructed from cubes and using their colour palette, provide lesser-known yet relevant and interesting information about Ern\u0151 Rubik, while also highlighting scientific and pop-cultural references to the Cube.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The Rubik 50 \u2013 Fifty Years of Magic international travelling exhibition was created to mark Ern\u0151 Rubik’s 80th birthday and the 50th anniversary of the invention of the Cube and its New York showcase is organized by the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), Budapest, Hungary and the Liszt Institute New York.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The installation concept was developed in the Rubik 50 course, led by Zsuzsanna Kiss-G\u00e1l, D\u00e1niel Lakos, Zsanett L\u00e9pold and Bal\u00e1zs P\u00fcsp\u00f6k.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
