A Joint Statement on Tourism and COVID-19 – UNWTO and WHO Call for Responsibility and Coordination<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Frente al brote actual de la enfermedad del coronavirus (COVID-19) que contin\u00faa expandi\u00e9ndose \u00a0la Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial de la Salud (OMS) y la Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial del Turismo (OMT) mantienen su compromiso de colaborar para guiar la respuesta del sector de los viajes y el turismo al COVID-19.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

As the current outbreak of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) continues to develop, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) are committed to working together in guiding the travel and tourism sectors\u2019 response to COVID-19. <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

El 30 de enero de 2020, el Director General de la Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial de la Salud (OMS) declar\u00f3 el brote de COVID-19 como emergencia para la salud p\u00fablica de importancia internacional y promulg\u00f3 un conjunto de recomendaciones temporales. La OMS no recomend\u00f3 ninguna restricci\u00f3n a los viajes o al comercio, bas\u00e1ndose en la informaci\u00f3n disponible en el momento. La OMS trabaja en estrecha colaboraci\u00f3n con expertos globales, gobiernos y asociados para expandir r\u00e1pidamente el conocimiento cient\u00edfico sobre este nuevo virus, hacer un seguimiento de la propagaci\u00f3n y la virulencia del virus, y asesorar a los pa\u00edses y a la comunidad global sobre medidas para proteger la salud y prevenir la propagaci\u00f3n del brote.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

On 30 January 2020, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of COVID-19 to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern and issued a set of Temporary Recommendations. WHO did not recommend any travel or trade restriction based on the current information available. WHO is working closely with global experts, governments and partners to rapidly expand scientific knowledge on this new virus, to track the spread and virulence of the virus, and to provide advice to countries and the global community on measures to protect health and prevent the spread of this outbreak.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

La cooperaci\u00f3n es clave<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

El sector tur\u00edstico tiene el firme compromiso de pensar ante todo en las personas y en su bienestar, y la cooperaci\u00f3n internacional es vital para garantizar que el sector pueda contribuir de manera efectiva a contener el COVID-19. La OMT y la OMS trabajan en estrecha concertaci\u00f3n entre ellas y con otras partes para ayudar a los Estados a garantizar que las medidas sanitarias se implementen de manera que se minimice cualquier interferencia innecesaria con el tr\u00e1fico y el comercio internacional.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

La respuesta del turismo debe ser medida, coherente y proporcionada a la amenaza para la salud p\u00fablica, y debe basarse en una evaluaci\u00f3n del riesgo local, teniendo en cuenta cada eslab\u00f3n de la cadena de valor del turismo \u2013las entidades p\u00fablicas, las compa\u00f1\u00edas privadas y los turistas\u2013, en sinton\u00eda con las orientaciones y recomendaciones generales de la OMS.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Cooperation is key<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The tourism sector is fully committed to putting people and their well-being first. International cooperation is vital for ensuring the sector can effectively contribute to the containment of COVID-19. UNWTO and WHO are working in close consultation and with other partners to assist States in ensuring that health measures be implemented in ways that minimize unnecessary interference with international traffic and trade.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Tourism\u2019s response needs to be measured and consistent, proportionate to the public health threat and based on local risk assessment, involving every part of the tourism value chain \u2013 public bodies, private companies and tourists, in line with WHO\u2019s overall guidance and recommendations<\/span>.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

La OMT y la OMS est\u00e1n preparadas para trabajar en estrecha colaboraci\u00f3n con todas las comunidades y pa\u00edses afectados por la actual emergencia sanitaria, para construir un futuro mejor y m\u00e1s resiliente. Imponer restricciones a los viajes m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de eso puede promover una interferencia innecesaria con el tr\u00e1fico internacional y repercutir negativamente en el sector tur\u00edstico.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

UNWTO and WHO stand ready to work closely with all those communities and countries affected by the current health emergency, to build for a better and more resilient future. Travel restrictions going beyond these may cause unnecessary interference with international traffic, including negative repercussions on the tourism sector.<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
