In 1889 their founding of the organization that subsequently became the National Association of Women Artists, Inc. proves that, despite adversity and discrimination &#8211; which many feel extends to this day &#8211; women are an integral and valuable part of the arts community.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u00abLa historia de NAWA es un testimonio de la fuerza y \u200b\u200bla resistencia de un grupo de mujeres fuertes que no aceptar\u00edan quedar excluidas de los salones de arte, galer\u00edas y exposiciones de arte abiertas a artistas masculinos durante el siglo XIX. The benefits of membership are many, including a substantial Awards program, the opportunity to display artwork throughout the U.S. in our Exhibitions program, and inclusion in NAWA&#8217;s Annual Catalog.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The NAWA Permanent Collection, established in 1991 under the direction of Liana Moonie, is housed at the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University.
