This data will then be used to assess how tourism can best be used to help drive sustainable growth and development.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">El nuevo Observatorio se ubica en la ciudad de La Antigua Guatemala, declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO y uno de los principales destinos tur\u00edsticos. Dirigido por el Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo (INGUAT) y apoyado por el gobierno de Guatemala, el Observatorio recopilar\u00e1 peri\u00f3dicamente datos y evidencias cient\u00edficas mientras supervisa el efecto que tiene el turismo en la ciudad hist\u00f3rica. Luego, estos datos se utilizar\u00e1n para evaluar la mejor manera de utilizar el turismo para ayudar a impulsar el crecimiento y el desarrollo sostenibles.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe warmly welcome Antigua\u00b4s entry into our global network of observatories. This demonstrates Guatemala\u2019s strong commitment to tourism as a force for good,\u201d said UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili. \u201cThe Observatory will generate more and better evidence of the economic, environmental and social impacts that tourism has on Antigua and the surrounding area. This will facilitate decision making so that tourism can continue to drive sustainable development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #333399;\">\u201cDamos una calurosa bienvenida a la entrada de Antigua en nuestra red global de observatorios. Esto demuestra el fuerte compromiso de Guatemala con el turismo como una fuerza para el bien \u00ab, dijo el Secretario General de la OMT, Zurab Pololikashvili. \u201cEl Observatorio generar\u00e1 m\u00e1s y mejor evidencia de los impactos econ\u00f3micos, ambientales y sociales que el turismo tiene en Antigua y sus alrededores. Esto facilitar\u00e1 la toma de decisiones para que el turismo pueda continuar impulsando el desarrollo sostenible \u00ab.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The establishment of the new Observatory was announced during the 64th meeting of the UNWTO Regional Commission for the Americas, also held in Antigua (15-16 May). Moving ahead, the Observatory will work with an interdisciplinary group of local experts. This commitment to the input of local stakeholders is a key feature of the INSTO Observatories around the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><em>El establecimiento del nuevo Observatorio se anunci\u00f3 durante la 64\u00aa reuni\u00f3n de la Comisi\u00f3n Regional de la OMT para las Am\u00e9ricas, celebrada en Antigua (15-16 de mayo). Asimismo, el Observatorio trabajar\u00e1 con un grupo interdisciplinario de expertos locales. Este compromiso cuenta con el aporte de las partes interesadas locales \u00a0que ya es una caracter\u00edstica clave de los observatorios INSTO \u00a0(International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories )en todo el mundo.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Jorge Mario Chaj\u00f3n, Director General of INGUAT, adds: \u201cThis project will have a real multiplier effect, maximizing the economic as well as the social benefits that tourism brings.
